Guyana to host ICAO-EASA Global Summit for first time – Min Indar
Guyana will host the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Global Summit for the first time, bringing together representatives from approximately 60 countries for the major international aviation forum.
Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar, disclosed on Monday that Guyana will be hosting the summit from September 29 to 30.
He noted this as a significant development for Guyana’s aviation sector and reflects the growing international attention being placed on the country.
“I believe also that this month, we will be hosting, for the first time in our history, the Global ICAO EASA,” the minister said.
The minister explained that the event will bring together international aviation stakeholders.
He said it provides an opportunity for Guyana to strengthen cooperation with global and bilateral partners.
“Currently, we have close to 60 countries with representatives from 60 countries. They’ll be here,” he said.
Minister Indar said several international partners are also expected to be in Guyana for the event, with the country set to sign a number of agreements to strengthen cooperation within the aviation sector.
“We’ll be signing maybe seven to eight-year service agreements with different global partners, bilateral partners, like France, Nicaragua, Curaçao, Panama, a whole host of them will be here,” he said.
According to the minister, the hosting of the summit is part of the continued development and increased international recognition of Guyana’s aviation sector.
“So, the aviation world is coming to Guyana. We are recognised as a growing hotspot, and we are gathering some good attention,” Minister Indar said.
He further noted that Guyana recently secured the opportunity to host the CAPA Airline Leaders Summit in 2027, which will bring together chief executive officers, chairpersons and owners of airlines from around the world.
“These are recognisable achievements that I believe that we should be proud of as a country,” the minister concluded.
